Anyway I'll be making the purchase for him over eBay so we're both at this point researching them separately [he is out of the country]. I'm in Canada and he's in the U.S.

He has about $200 he would like to spend and see if he likes them enough to buy a better quality one but I see them priced anywhere from $50 all the way up to $2000. I'm sure the quality varies but do they really vary that much [like acoustics] since I assume they are essentially just a pickup on a cigar box?

Disclaimer: I apologize in advance if this doesn't really fit the acoustic forum. These may be considered electric guitars but this is the smartest place I know so here I am. Continuing on...

Anyway I guess what I'm asking is - for those who have experience with them - what would be a good first step to take? Should I pitch in more if say a $300 model is a better starter then a $150 model?

I'm personally looking at something like this:

...but maybe this thing is a piece of you know what?

I would appreciate any help if someone around here knows a thing or two about them. Completely lost on these as it is.

My son bought me one of these WeeklyHouse guitars for Christmas. Not exactly a guitar sound but very cool and bluesy , easy to play with a glass slide, mine's a 4 string tuned GDGD also got a small cigarbox amp. Go to cigarboxnation.com lots of advice. I like this enough that I am now building one myself. Lots of fun !

Production dates for non-Cuban cigars

I have always wanted to know why the non-Cuban cigar boxes come without the production date except fews like Fuente and Padron(they just provide the year). I asked this question to couple of cigar makers and not convinced with their explanation. Does anyone have a logical answer to this question?
