Posted: Feb/09/ at 10:54am I hear Mopar filters are ordered by batch and bid. So it could be anybody's filter. Which makes sense, they're in it to make money and they're not going to blame their "house filter" on your engine blowing up. I've never ran a NAPA filter on an AMC before, but I did buy one at their last filter sale tho. I've pretty much ran Purolator since I've owned the car. I can't wait till spring to try this NAPA filter out and see if it's a crAPA filter instead. If so, I'll just spin it off and slap a Purolator back on it. I'll post my results of course. I'll get my Son to video document it. Before and after.

Well, the Fram application chart says PH11. It seem to me the suggested filter for both the I-6 and all V8's became the same one a few years back.  As to what one is better, as it can be seen arguably any ones specific personal preference.
So
I have been using FRAMS for years.  In all my cars no matter what the brand. Occasionally if the mood behooves me and I get a good deal I will go out of my way to buy a WIX which also has a good reputation.
I have never had a problem with a Fram nor have I ever had a reason not to use one.
So! Good Lord willing and the creek don't rise, I will continue using FRAMS.  But then again I also use Champion Spark Plugs.  The only concession to the recommended plug, on my modified engines I generally go 2 to 3 heat ranges colder.
And 20W50 dinosaur oil except my Chrysler which uses Mobil 1 synthetic 15W50

UJ do you have oil pressure gauges or lights in your cars? If lights you will lever see the psi drop at speed. My truck (02 Durango 5.9) has a gauage and I did see a differance between Fram and the dealer filters. If you do have a gauge note the psi on the hi way then next change use a different filter and see what you get as I would like to know. Dave ----  TSM = Technical Service Manual

Just out of curiosity, do Chrysler Jeep dealers still sell "Factory" oil filters for the AMC powered Jeeps they use to sell?I dont know as I have never look at the filter. Other then a few times the quicky lube did the oil change the dealer has done all the service on my 02 Durango w/5.9. I will not use the quick lube because they use Fram filters and where I saw the psi drop when on the hi way. btw I get free oil change for life of the truck from the dealer and have them do other work as needed at same time. It's nothing fancy, no special media, no silicone drainback valve, media area is unimpressive, etc. But at least it doesn't backflow. Folks used to call me crazy for running Castrol Edge 5W50 classic car formula. Reports have it at PPM of Zinc and changing it every miles.  Once my current stock (18 quarts) is gone, I'm switching to Valvoline Premium Blue Extreme full synthetic 5W40 diesel oil with PPM if I remember right. It's better suited for my engine and it's cheaper. I might go between changes. My engines don't sludge up. Especially because any sludge in a 327 will find it's way to the rocker shafts and plug up the passeges in there.  Rocker assemblies are only reman and $300+.  I've taken apart several 327's with nasty gray crud oozing from the shafts and rockers galled beyond repair. I have had the same issue.  That, is why they are a distant... third pick on my list. (and NAPA is close if I get in to a bind)
Maybe it is time for me to buy one of everyone's favorites and complete a study.  I am not sure I could bring myself to actually buy one of those orange ones though..   Could be fun.  The anti-drain back valve is the biggie in our case.
Here is what a Wix/NAPA one looks like cut apart.

  1. Baldwin B9
  2. Baldwin B39
  3. AC Delco PF-24
  4. Purolator L

I used to use the Napa Gold , Papa Proselect , and Wix . They're all the same filter.  On every single one I've bought for years, the anti-drainback valve didn't work and let oil drain from the passages and back into the pan, making for a dry start every time. You can test this valve by blowing into the center hole of the filter. A proper filter should not let air pass, but these do. It's a design flaw of a spacer plate within that shifts the valve to the side and prevents it from sealing.

Want more information on car oil filter manufacturers? Feel free to contact us.

It's not a problem on the 327, but the 360 clatters it's lifters on startup with that filter and I can see the delay in pressure buildup on the warning light and guage (I have both). I'm a Napa employee, and for me to slander one of my own filters means I'm positive they're faulty.  I should contact the district office and enlighten them of the defect. Perhaps they'll get it fixed, but likely not. All other Napa filters I've sold have been some of the best you can buy, right up there with Purolator.
