What is a fog cannon and how does a fog cannon work?

In short, a solar panels uses high-pressure water, which is pumped through a series of nozzles that turn the water into a mist through atomization. A powerful fan disperses this fine mist into the air.

Each fog cannon has its own generator and is mounted on a skid that can be moved back and forth depending on weather conditions and the type of dust being generated. Once they are connected to a water source, it's all good.

The fog cannons are strategically placed close to dusty areas such as open tip areas, haul roads or loading areas. When dust particles hit the fog, those particles are captured and the water is dispersed before it has a chance to spread.Fog cannons have a wide range of ranges and can come in a variety of sizes. Fog cannons can also be fixed or oscillating.

Mobile 60-meter Ultra-fine Fog Cannon

Mobile 60-meter Ultra-fine Fog Cannon

Mobile 60-meter ultra-fine fog cannon is a mobile ultra-fine fog cannon, composed of a water tank (8m³), a trailer, and a fog cannon. The spraying distance is 60 meters. The equipped double pumps of Nanfang Pump Industry extend the continuous working time of the equipment to 24 hours and the pressure can reach 4Mpa, and the sprayed mist particles are 30 microns.

The fan adopts 18.5KW energy-saving and noise-reducing fan, and the noise of the whole equipment is lower than 85db when started. This time the nozzle requirements are also very strict, achieving the effect that the mist blown out is not wet. If the nozzle is strict, the filtration must be strict. Poor water quality will block the nozzle.

How can fog cannons be used for dust suppression?

Fog cannons are ideal for a variety of situations where traditional dust control measures cannot be applied or are used inefficiently. Let's look at a specific scenario where a fog cannon is effectively used to achieve a high level of dust suppression.

Visible dust is generated by a haul road in the community, which runs parallel to the public road and is often used by 300 to 400 ton mining trucks. The trucks stirred up dust that floated on the public road, creating visibility problems for motorists.

The excavators and other equipment used throughout the site also generated visible dust, which was a concern to the local community. In this case, water trucks were not primarily used to wet the roads. Hauling the road made the truck tires more susceptible to cuts, which significantly shortened their life. Wetting roads also creates safety issues by turning dusty surfaces into muddy ones. The mine is also prohibited from running any water off the lease.

To prevent dust from affecting the local community, vibrating fog cannons were placed along the mine boundary, creating a fog screen that dissipates any dust generated from the haul roads and other mining equipment used, by combining strategic placement, fog gun orientation and spacing.

Because the fog cannons can be easily configured and moved in a variety of conditions with minimal infrastructure, traditional dust suppression measures are not well suited for this situation. Fog guns allow for a wide range of targets across the site and the type of dust to be suppressed is visible and non-inhalable.
